Lead Generation

I would like to start a discussion on lead generation, eg. resources you find useful, cold calling effectivness and best practices, email marketing, networking, et al. Since we are all in different market spaces, wonder if there is a common thread of success? Some hate cold calling so never do it, or possibly you utilize a great network or a combination of all of the above?
